Materials

In this step by step lesson, we will learn how to make a beach sunset drawing on paper. To make sure it looks great, we will consider the various sizes and shapes of each part of the beach sunset. The drawn lines in each illustration is color-coded blue so you can observe the current shapes that you should be creating.

Time Needed: 30 minutes

1. First Draw The Midrib

   

   First, draw the midrib of the palm leaves by creating curved lines branching out from a common point.

2. Form The Shape Of The Leaves

   

   Form the shape of the leaves by making zigzag lines around the midrib as shown.

3. Attach The Palm Tree Trunk

   

   Attach the trunk of the palm tree by drawing long curved lines.

4. Draw Sand At The Base Of The Palm Tree

   

   Draw sand at the base of the palm tree by creating a short wavy line.

5. Add Palm Tree Trunk Details

   

   Add the details on the trunk of the palm tree by drawing lines curving upward.

6. Create The Background

   

   Let's create the background for our beach sunset drawing by first drawing a long horizontal line at the center. Next, add two more wavy horizontal lines to draw the sand. Then, form the clouds with bumpy rounded shapes.

7. Add The Setting Sun

   

   Add the setting sun by drawing a semicircle.

8. Draw The Reflection Of The Sun

   

   Draw the reflection of the sun on the water by making a wavy curved line.

9. Complete The Beach Sunset Drawing

   

   Let's complete the beach sunset drawing by first coloring the sky with a red crayon. Next, color the clouds and the sun with a yellow crayon. Use a light orange crayon to color the reflection of the sun in the water. Now, color the sand with a dark brown crayon. Then, shade the leaves of the palm tree with a green crayon and the trunk with a brown crayon. Finally, fill in the body of water with a blue crayon.

Beach at Dusk Drawing Lesson

Now let's try drawing another sunset!  This sunset takes place on the ocean at dusk just as everything is getting quite dark.

Step 1: Draw the Midrib

First, let's outline the leaves by drawing the midribs as shown in the illustration.

Step 2: Outline the Leaves

Use the midrib as reference points. Outline the shape of the leaves around the midrib to form the leaves.

Step 3: Form the Trunk

To form the trunk, draw a narrow shape from the leaves, going downwards.

Step 4: Create the Texture

Create the texture of the tree trunk by drawing multiple horizontal lines in the trunks as shown.

Step 5: Outline the Shore

Draw a horizontal line across the illustration to form the sandy shores.

Step 6:  Form the Horizon

Create another horizontal line above the shoreline to form the horizon.

Step 7: Draw the Setting Sun

To draw the setting sun, create a semi-circle facing downwards.

Step 8: Create the Reflection

To form the reflection of the setting sun on the sea surface, draw a curvy shape below the semi-circle.

Step 9: Complete the Beach Sunset Drawing

Let's finish the illustration by coloring our beautiful sky and majestic seas with shades of red, orange and yellow as shown. Next, color the trees, and the beach with a black crayon to form a silhouette of the foreground. Lastly, fill in the sunset and the edges of the silhouette with a yellow crayon.

Now Try Drawing This:
